Story

"O ruru otu oge, otu nwoke dị. O nwere ndị nwunye atọ na ụmụ iri na abụo. O nwere otu obere ụlọ, ma ụlọ a mara oké mma. Nwoke a bụ onye ọrụ ugbo. O nwekwara ala ubi hiri nne. O nwere ala buru ibu ebe ọ kụrụ ji na apkụ na ede. Ndị nwunye ya na ụmụ ya na-eriju afọ nke ọma, na-enwekwa aňụrị. Obi na-atọ ya ụtọ oge niile. O ruo otu ụbọchị nnukwu mmiri wee zoo. Idi akarịa. Nnukwu ikuku ekuokwa. Otu nnukwu osisi wee daa. Osisi a wee daa n'elu ụlọ nwoke a. Ụlọ ahụ wee kụkasịa. Ebere nwoke ahụ emee m, n'ihi na ihe a ga-eji ruzie ụlọ ahụ ga-adị oke ọnụ."

Translation

O ruru otu oge, otu nwoke dị.
Once upon a time (It reached one time), there lived a man (one man there was / existed).

O nwere ndị nwunye atọ na ụmụ iri na abụo.
He had (some) three wives and 12 children

O nwere otu obere ụlọ, ma ụlọ a mara oké mma. Nwoke a bụ onye ọrụ ugbo.
He had a (one) small house, but this house is (was) very nice. This man is a farm worker (i.e this.man is person who work farm)

O nwekwara ala ubi hiri nne. O nwere ala buru ibu ebe ọ kụrụ ji na apkụ na ede.
He also has farm land plenty. He has a lot of land where he plated yam and casava and coco yam.

Ndị nwunye ya na ụmụ ya na-eriju afọ nke ọma, na-enwekwa aňụrị.
His wives and his children were very well fed. (well fed very), (and) also happy.

Obi na-atọ ya ụtọ oge niile.
His heart was sweet/happy always

O ruo otu ụbọchị nnukwu mmiri wee zoo. Idi akarịa. Nnukwu ikuku ekuokwa.
One day (it reach one day) (a) big rain fell. (A) big flood (happened). (A) big wind blew.

Otu nnukwu osisi wee daa. Osisi a wee daa n'elu ụlọ nwoke a. Ụlọ ahụ wee kụkasịa.
A (One) big tree thus fell. This tree thus fell on top of this man's house. That house thus broke.

Ebere nwoke ahụ emee m,
I feel sorry for that man (Pity for that man I have),

n'ihi na ihe a ga-eji ruzie ụlọ ahụ ga-adị oke ọnụ.
because what (this thing) will be used to repair that house (rebuild/make good/do work well on that house) will be very expensive.
